How to find a U4U sponsor

In order to apply for the U4U program one must first find a sponsor.

Who can be a sponsor

  1. Anyone with lawful status in the US (nonimmigrant, Green Card holder, US Citizen, asylum holder, TPS Holder, parolee, DACA or DED holder and even F-1 students can be a Sponsor/Supporter for U4U).

  2. Legal service providers, churches, and non-profit organizations (as secondary sponsors). I-134 forms cannot be filled out on behalf of an organization. So, although it is possible to find a sponsor through an organization, you would need to find a main sponsor or cosponsors within that organization.

Know your rights

  1. You have rights — the sponsor cannot pressure or give you ultimatums

    • To live with them

    • To work for them

    • To give them your documents

    • To be intimate with them

  2. Be cautious

    • If your sponsor says they live far from a city

    • If there is no transportation around

  3. Red flags

    • If they expect you to do work at their house

    • They offer you sponsorship for any sort of reward (payment, sexual favors, labor, etc.)

  4. Your sponsor can’t

    • End your sponsorship

    • Deport you

    • Force you to have sexual relations

  5. Sponsors shouldn't

    • Make you learn English

    • Take your paycheck

    • Make you work for them

  6. Information needed

    • All your sponsor needs is a copy of your passport and current email address,  physical address, phone number, place of birth

    • There are, however, exceptions if your sponsor does not have enough income to qualify and can’t find a co-sponsor. Then you may be asked to provide your current bank statement. This statement will need to be translated into English and all amounts converted to US dollars.

  7.  Do NOT give out any money to anyone (sponsor or intermediary)

How to write a winning post

  1. Everyone should include

    1.  A picture of you and the members of your family coming with you

    2. Your name

    3. Ages of all family members coming with you

    4. The region you are originally from

    5. Job before the war for each adult in your group

    6. Where you are currently located (at least in what country)

  2. If you are in Europe

    1. Explain why you want to come to the US rather than stay in the country where you are currently located. “I have always dreamed about moving to the US” is not a good reason to list here.

  3. If you are a single man (18-60)

    1. Explain why you are not fighting in the war and how you were able to escape.

DOs

  1. Make sure your posts stay active! For example, on Facebook, leave comments on your posts daily. If you feel your post has too many of your own comments, you can delete the old ones, just make sure your post is at the top of the group you posted in.

  2. Make sure to follow the group’s post-limit policy. You don’t want to get kicked out of a group for posting too much.

  3. If your post was declined you can find out why this happened on Facebook. In the notification section, you can find any comments the admin left on your post.

DONTs

Important! Never get into any arguments in any of these groups, especially not under your own post!
